Why is my Hoshizaki making a loud, grinding sucking noise in the water bin?
This is the sound of a recirculation pump running completely dry. Hoshizaki machines use a precise mechanical float switch to tell the control board when the water reservoir is full. Houston’s hard water coats this switch in calcium, physically jamming it in the “up” position. The EverCheck™ board thinks there is plenty of water and turns on the pump, which then sucks air and violently cavitates. The float assembly must be manually extracted and cleared.
Why does Hoshizaki use stainless steel evaporators instead of nickel-plated ones?
Standard luxury ice machines use copper evaporator plates coated in a thin layer of nickel. Over time, acidic water and harsh cleaning chemicals cause the nickel plating to blister and flake off directly into your ice, which is a major food safety hazard. Hoshizaki utilizes proprietary Dual-Sided Stainless Steel Evaporator plates, which are virtually indestructible, completely immune to flaking, and ensure a highly sanitary ice supply.
My Hoshizaki is built tightly into a Houston stone outdoor island. Can it be repaired?
Yes. Hoshizaki Undercounter units are engineered as “front-breathing” commercial machines. This means all the critical intake and exhaust ventilation occurs through the front louvered grille. Our technicians can access the main EverCheck™ control board, the dual-solenoid water valves, and the condenser coil without needing to completely extract the heavy machine from your custom stone masonry.
Why is there a steady trickle of water constantly running down the drain?
If you hear water continuously running down your gravity drain even when the machine is not actively in a harvest cycle, the primary water inlet valve has failed. Hard water scale has damaged the internal diaphragm of the valve, preventing it from snapping fully closed. Fresh water is constantly bypassing the valve, overflowing the internal reservoir, and pouring straight down the drain, wasting massive amounts of water and requiring a valve replacement.
