Viking Repair FAQs

Why does my VariSimmer™ burner keep blowing out when I turn it down low?

Viking engineered the VariSimmer™ setting to provide a gentle, perfectly even simmer at extremely low temperatures for delicate sauces. If the flame sputters and blows out on the lowest setting, the tiny gas ports on the solid brass burner cap are likely clogged with carbonized food debris or cooking grease. Alternatively, the manual air-shutter beneath the burner may be knocked out of alignment, creating a poor oxygen-to-gas ratio. A master mechanic must deep-clean the ports and manually tune the air-shutter.

Is it really worth replacing the bake igniter on a 15-year-old Viking range?

Absolutely. Viking ranges are built like commercial tanks. Their heavy stainless steel chassis, thick continuous cast-iron grates, and heavy-duty gas manifolds do not degrade. If a 15-year-old range suffers a burned-out bake igniter or a seized convection fan, replacing that specific OEM component restores the machine to factory-new performance. It costs a fraction of a new $15,000 range and completely avoids the nightmare of remodeling your Houston kitchen to fit a different brand.

Why is my Viking Built-In Refrigerator freezing my fresh produce?

If your fresh food section is dropping below 32°F and freezing your vegetables, the internal thermistor (temperature sensor) has failed, or the electronic air damper has jammed in the open position. In humid Houston environments, excess ice buildup can physically wedge the damper door open, allowing freezing Viking air from the evaporator to endlessly flood the compartment. We must dismantle the internal tower to thaw the ice, test the thermistors with a multi-meter, and replace the faulty OEM damper.
