Ice-O-Matic avoids overcomplicated touchscreens in favor of raw, mechanical efficiency. They maximize ice yield using Harvest Assist Technology—a proprietary mechanical pin that physically pushes the ice off the freezing plate. However, this heavy-duty system is highly vulnerable to hard water. Calcium scale builds up on the evaporator, creating a rough, abrasive surface. The ice sticks to the scale, and the mechanical pin jams trying to push it off, causing the machine to freeze into a solid glacier. Furthermore, environmental contaminants can overwhelm the AgION antimicrobial compounds in their PureIce® systems, choking water distribution tubes.
