A standard countertop ice maker is a $300 disposable gadget that produces wet, fast-melting ice. An Ice-O-Matic HIS Series undercounter unit or Pearl Ice® Machine is a heavy-duty, commercial-grade refrigeration plant engineered for bulletproof reliability. When a luxury Ice-O-Matic unit fails in your wet bar or custom outdoor kitchen, tossing it out is a massive architectural risk. These commercial systems are not plug-and-play; they are framed tightly into custom millwork and hard-plumbed to highly specific gravity drains in your floor. Swapping to a different brand with a different footprint requires hiring a plumber to tear up your flooring to relocate the drain pipe, and a carpenter to fix the cabinet gaps. Performing a deep, commercial-grade acid wash or replacing a $150 water inlet valve is vastly cheaper and saves the architecture of your home.

Ice-O-Matic avoids overcomplicated touchscreens in favor of raw, mechanical efficiency. They maximize ice yield using Harvest Assist Technology—a proprietary mechanical pin that physically pushes the ice off the freezing plate. However, this heavy-duty system is highly vulnerable to hard water. Calcium scale builds up on the evaporator, creating a rough, abrasive surface. The ice sticks to the scale, and the mechanical pin jams trying to push it off, causing the machine to freeze into a solid glacier. Furthermore, environmental contaminants can overwhelm the AgION antimicrobial compounds in their PureIce® systems, choking water distribution tubes.

Tell us the machine and what’s happening — solid block of ice on the evaporator, Pearl Ice® machine not producing, loudly clicking Harvest Assist pin, or unit shutting down in the heat — and we’ll dispatch a technician, typically within 24 hours. Most Ice-O-Matic repairs are completed on the first visit and backed by our unmatched two-year parts-and-labor warranty.

Ice-O-Matic Appliance Service & Repair Repair FAQs

Why is my Ice-O-Matic Appliance Service & Repair frozen into a solid block of ice?

This is the classic “Harvest Jam.” Ice-O-Matic Appliance Service & Repair machines rely on Harvest Assist Technology, utilizing a mechanical pin to push the ice off the evaporator plate. If you have hard water, calcium scale bakes onto the plate. The ice fiercely bonds to this rough scale, and the mechanical pin gets physically jammed trying to push it off. The machine assumes the harvest cycle is complete, adds more water, and eventually freezes into a solid glacier. The unit requires professional manual thawing and deep chemical descaling.

What exactly is Pearl Ice®, and why did my machine stop making it?

Pearl Ice® (often referred to as “Sonic ice”) is the holy grail of residential ice—soft, chewable, compressed nugget ice that absorbs the flavor of your beverage. Pearl Ice machines use a heavy-duty auger to continuously scrape ice off a freezing cylinder and compress it into nuggets. If production stops and the machine makes a loud grinding noise, the internal auger bearings have likely worn out due to heavy scale buildup, or the water inlet valve has failed, causing the auger to run dry.

Why is my Ice-O-Matic Appliance Service & Repair suddenly leaking water all over the floor?

Commercial-grade undercounter ice machines rely on exact-pitch gravity drains. If your machine is leaking onto the floor, the primary drain line is completely choked with biological buildup or calcium scale. Because the water cannot flow down the pipe, it violently overflows the internal drain pan and pours out the bottom of the chassis. We must safely extract the unit and flush the gravity drain line with high pressure.

How does the PureIce® system work, and does it need maintenance?

Ice-O-Matic Appliance Service & Repair’s PureIce® system features internal plastic components injection-molded with AgION, a silver-based antimicrobial compound designed to inhibit bacteria and slime. However, it is not a substitute for maintenance. If the machine is installed in a high-humidity environment or near a kitchen baking area, airborne yeast will eventually overwhelm the AgION protection, requiring a professional commercial sanitization cycle to clear the water lines.
